The world's first coma-correcting eyepiece for Newtonian telescopes - designed and perfected to provide state-of-the-art image quality and ergonomic features for telescope users.
Features
- Well-corrected ultra-wide 86° field with sharp star images across the field even with fast f/3 Newtonian optics
- Comfortable 20 mm eye relief with foldable rubber eyecup
- Multi-coated optics combined with high transmission glass types and blackened lens edges for maximum light throughput
- Flat field requiring less than 0.7 diopters of accommodation across the field
- Low distortion delivering constant magnification across the field
- Handy size and weight with comfortable rubber grips
- Filter-threaded barrel with safety kerfs that do not lock, slip, or tilt in the focuser
- Eyepiece cap with glow in the dark focal length
- All Houdini eyepieces feature full multicoating, blackened lens edges, high index glasses, a fold-down eye guard with a cover with glow-in-the-dark labeling, comfortable rubber grips, a barrel with kerfs for trouble-free locking, and filter threads.
- Houdini eyepieces are designed in-house and extensively optimized using proprietary Eyepiece Design Software. Every eyepiece is individually tested in Houdini's shop to ensure it meets high optical and cosmetic standards.
Will it work in my telescope?
- The Houdini eyepieces were designed for Newtonian telescopes with parabolic mirrors, but they will also work well with any telescope with a focal ratio of f/6 or slower (f/8, f/10, etc.). This includes slow refractors and most popular Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes.
- The eyepiece is not recommended for use with fast telescope systems without parabolic mirror, such as f/5 APO refractors.
The Magic of Houdini eyepieces
This innovative addition to your astronomical toolkit is sure to take your stargazing experience to new heights.
Houdini eyepieces are renowned for their exceptional performance on all Newtonian telescopes. By ingeniously integrating coma correction into the eyepiece itself, it offers a lighter and more ergonomic design compared to traditional setups that require separate correctors. This integration not only simplifies your equipment, but also enhances the clarity and sharpness of your observations, providing the crisp, clear views that are essential for both novice and experienced astronomers.
Houdini eyepieces were developed by passionate amateur astronomers in search of the best observing experience with their telescopes.
The image below graphically illustrates what the Houdini coma correction does in a fast f/4 Newtonian telescope. The spot diagrams are greatly magnified to show the optical aberrations more clearly. Near the edge of the field, star images are 5 times smaller in a Houdini than in a standard eyepiece! The Houdini coma correction completely eliminates the annoying comet-like tails that are the telltale sign of parabolic coma.

The Houdini eyepiece's ability to deliver sharp images across the entire field of view of Newtonian telescopes is particularly beneficial when observing expansive star clusters, intricate nebulae, or the rugged lunar surface.
Its ergonomic design ensures comfortable use during long observation sessions, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in the wonders of the night sky without unnecessary strain. No more fiddling with the position of the eyepiece in a coma corrector. Just insert the eyepiece into your telescope and bring it into focus!
Investing in high-quality optics like the Houdini eyepiece reflects your dedication to the art and science of astronomy. As you explore the cosmos with this remarkable tool, may you uncover new details in familiar celestial objects and perhaps even discover new favorites. Wishing you countless clear nights filled with awe-inspiring observations and the joy of discovery.
