- Low-noise monochrome camera with Sony IMX174 1920x1200 sensor with 5.6um pixels
- High data transfer rate of 138fps at full resolution ideal for planetary, lunar, and solar imaging
- Uses Sony global shutter CMOS technology for superior image quality
- Compact, thermally efficient housing fits in 1.25” eyepiece holder
- Robust aircraft-spec 5-pin socket for secure connection to external devices
1. Fast Data Transfer
The QHY5III-series are fast and sensitive astronomy cameras and autoguiders. They use a 5Gbps USB3.0 interface and have a maximum 350MByte/s transfer speed of image frames, ideal for high speed imaging of fast-rotating planets.
2. Advanced Heat Design
QHY5III-series cameras incorporate an advanced thermal design that helps transfer heat generated by the sensor and electronics to the metal case of the camera quickly. Heat is dissipated by the cooling fins and by the eyepiece holder of your telescope.
3. Compact Robust Design
Like the QHY5II-series, the QHY5III-series cameras feature a compact body that slides into a 1.25” eyepiece holder. Each camera also includes an adjustable location ring to make it confocal with an eyepiece. The QHY5III-series also includes an extremely robust and stable 5-pin aircraft-spec socket for a secure, solid connection between the camera and other devices. The cameras come with a 5-pin-LEMO-to-RJ11 guide cable for autoguiding.
4. Fast, Sensitive Camera for Lunar, Solar, and DSO Imaging
The 2.3-Megapixel QHY5III-174M is the first in the new QHY5III series of CMOS USB 3.0 cameras. The camera is designed to be an excellent planetary, lunar and solar camera. The large 5.6um pixel size and high QE (78%) makes it good for imaging brighter deep-sky objects as well. This monochrome camera has a fast data transfer rate of 138 fps at a full resolution of 1920x1200.
Sony introduced a new global shutter (GS) CMOS imaging technology called PregiusTM on the IMX174 sensor that’s used in the QHY5III-174M. This technology enables fast frame rates and CCD-like imaging performance. It also offers higher quantum efficiency and reduced dark noise, enabling higher gain without compromising image quality. The global shutter also eliminates pixelization caused by atmospheric agitation and high frame rates when imaging the Moon and planets.
Software support includes: EZPlanetary, SharpCAP, FireCapture, Native WDM, BroadCast WDM and ASCOM.
