Please Note:
- All Sharpstar/Askar refractors undergo physical, mechanical and optical QC inspections at the factory, and an inspection checklist is included with each telescope.
- We may partially open the scope boxes to ensure that the scope has been inspected/certified by the manufacturer but we do not open the scope and inspect it again.
- However, if you would like us to perform a mechanical and cosmetic inspection of your telescope again before we ship it, just request this in the comments field when you place your order. We will be happy to do this at no extra cost for this scope, but this will delay your shipment by 1-2 business days. Note that we are unable to perform optical tests/inspections.
- Askar 130PHQ four-element refractor with 130mm aperture and f/7.7 focal ratio, ideal for lunar, planetary, and deep sky imaging and visual observing
- Built-in field flattener ensures excellent optical performance across big 60mm image circle
- Air-spaced triplet objective with two ED elements virtually eliminate chromatic aberration
- Rotatable 3.4” rack-and-pinion focuser, threaded adapters, 2” adapter ring
- Includes mounting rings, Losmandy-style dovetail, carrying handle, and hard case
The Askar 130mm 130PHQ astrograph incorporates a four-element optical design to deliver sharp, color-free images for astrophotographers and visual observers. This f/7.7 astrograph features an ED triplet objective and one field-flattening corrective element further back in the optical path to correct for field curvature over a large 60mm image circle. There’s no need for a separate field flattener – this makes it easy to use this telescope with a wide range of cameras and accessories without being tied to the short back focus of many external corrective elements.
This premium astrograph includes a large 3.4” rack-and-pinion dual-speed (1:10) focuser that’s fully rotatable through 360 degrees and carries an 8kg load capacity. The focuser includes a standard shoe for mounting a finder or small guide scope (both sold separately). With the visual adapter removed, the focuser tube terminates with an M86x1 thread. The scope also includes four stackable adapters for direct attachment of a wide variety of cameras with standard metric threads.
The attractive green-trimmed optical tube of the 130PHQ is complemented with a highly functional set of aluminum rings, a Losmandy-style dovetail, and a carrying handle. The handle includes separate mounting holes for additional accessories. The entire tube has a length of 842.5mm with the dew shield retracted and 1.25” eyepiece holder installed It weighs 10.2kg.
With a focal length of 1000mm and apochromatic optics, the 130PHQ also works well as a serious visual instrument. A 35mm 2” eyepiece with a 68-degree apparent field of view delivers a wide 2.4-degree field of view at 29x, ideal for sweeping the Milky Way for star clusters and nebulae. Or power up with a short-focal length eyepiece and get sharp, high-magnification views of the moon and planets with virtually no false color. The limiting visual magnitude is 12.1.
The Askar 130PHQ offers excellent value in a premium larger-aperture astrograph for serious astronomical imaging and visual observing. For the price, this fast apochromatic telescope offers excellent value and can approach the performance of telescopes that cost three or four times as much. Full-frame sensors may reveal slight aberrations at the edge of the field, especially when using the focal reducer.
The telescope is shipped in a foam-fitted aluminum case.
Note: To offer even more versatility to the 130PHQ, Askar offers a 0.7x focal reducer for imaging applications (sold separately) This reducer takes the focal ratio down to a fast f/5.4 while preserving image sharpness and field flatness.
